Highland Mountain Bike Association
Welcome to Highland Mountain Biking Association Website. Over the past 10 years mountain biking has become tremendously popular, and nowhere more so than here in the north of Scotland where we have some of the best natural and purpose-built mtb trails imaginable.
From humble beginnings, The Highland Mountain Biking Association has developed into a large club dedicated to off-road cycling in all its forms, equal access to the countryside, and actively petitioning landowners for more trails and sustainable trail building.
With grant aid from the Highland Council, this site has been set up so all can add their voice to the campaign for more and better offroad riding, and to showcase the excellent facilities we already have in the area.
Enter the site to find out about how to participate, how to join HiMBA, and about enjoying mountain bike riding in Scotland.

Forestry Commission Scotland
|
The Forestry Commission is the Government Department responsible for forestry policy throughout Great Britain. It has a Board of Commissioners with duties and powers prescribed by statute, consisting of a Chairman and up to ten other Forestry Commissioners, including its Director General, who are appointed by the Queen on the recommendation of Ministers.
Forestry is a devolved matter. The Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has responsibility for forestry in England as well as certain acitivities such as international affairs and plant health which remain reserved by Westminster. Scottish Ministers have responsiblity for forestry in Scotland and the Welsh Assembly Government has responsibility for forestry in Wales.
Forestry Commission England, Forestry Commission Scotland and Forestry Commission Walesreport directly to their appropriate Minister, providing advice on policy and implementing that policy within the relevant country. The Forestry Commission in each country is led by a Director who is also a member of the GB Board of Commissioners.
The Commission also has an
Executive Board which assists the Director General and Country Directors in the effective management of the Commission by providing leadership and setting direction for the Commission as an organisation.
This new structure, which came into effect on 1 April 2003, allows the Forestry Commission to focus more clearly on delivering the policies of the individual Governments while still having the ability to take a GB-wide approach to "cross-border" issues.
The Commissioners receive external, independent advice on a range of key issues of interest to the forestry industry from the
Forestry Commissioners Advisory Panel which operates on a GB level.
The mission of the Forestry Commission is to protect and expand Britain's forests and woodlands and increase their value to society and the environment
The objective of the Forestry Commission GB is to take the lead, on behalf of all three administrations, in the development and promotion of sustainable forest management and to support its achievement nationally.
Each of the countries has its own strategy and mission, and delivers the forestry policy of each country through specific objectives drawn from the country strategies. Delivery of the policy, as well as the progress against the strategy objectives, are overseen in each country by the Commission's National Committee for England,
National Committee for Scotland and National Committee for Wales.
The Forestry Commission also has four executive agencies which work to targets set by Commissioners and Ministers.
Our public forests, woodlands and other land are managed by three Forest Enterprise agencies - one each in England, Scotland and Wales - on behalf of the Forestry Commission in that country. Together they manage a total of more than 1,000,000 hectares of land.
Forest Research is a GB-wide agency which aims to deliver high-quality scientific research and surveys, to inform the development of forestry policies and practices, and promote high standards of sustainable forest management.
Throughout GB, the Forestry Commission aims to be a place which values:
teamwork - working as teams with colleagues and others to ensure that trees, woods and forests meet the needs of people in each part of Britain
professionalism - enjoying and taking pride in our work, achieving high standards of quality, efficiency and sustainability
respect - treating one another with consideration and trust, recognising each person's contribution
communication - being open, honest and straightforward with colleagues ond others, as willing to listen as to tell
learning - always learning, from outside the Forestry Commission as well as from within
creativity - not being afraid to try new ways of doing things
